I can get it to when I have just put rosin in the bow & am playing the strings open, but not otherwise…

It’s my first time & I have no instructions. I’ve tried rosining the heck out of it, loosening & tightening the strings, more or less pressure on the bow. What am I doing wrong?

f = 1/2L * sq. root ( T / P )
The frequency of vibrations of a violin string is given by the above eq. where L is the length of the string, T is its tension, & P is linear density.
#1. Find rate of change of f with respect to: a) the length (when T & P are constant), b) the tension (when T & P are constant), c) the linear density (when T & P are density)

#2 The pitch of a note (how high or low the note sounds) is determined by the frequency F. Use the signs of the derivatives in #1 to determine what happens to the pitch of a note:

a) when the effective length of a string is decreased by placing a finger on the string so a shorter portion of the string vibrates
b) when the tension is increased by turning a tuning peg
c) when the linear density is increased by switching to another string

Is it? the number of strings or not?

It was played by women all dressed in yellow. It had strings, but looked oddly like a mini vacuum cleaner?

That would be rosin, but I wouldn’t try putting it on the strings. I would stick with the bow. =P
It’s not actually a stone, it’s a solid resin.
It comes in two varieties (yes, you can but nicer, more expensive rosin, or cheap rosin, but I’m not talking about that) – Light & dark. Dark can be used for violins, violas, cellos, & basses. Light is just for violins (and maybe violas?) & cannot be used for cellos. Dark rosin is not as yellow.

do you mark them out with paper at first?
I am a total beginner, can you give me any starter tips? I want to teach myself, I can read music & play the guitar, but there are less strings & no frets…how do I get started?

My violin has rosin collected(that’s impossible to wipe off) below the playing area of the strings & a little on the fingerboard. if i scrub it with my finger eraser shaving like shavings will come off. Should i keep doing this? Or just leave my violin as is?

Not techinally stray, more like they are more loose then the others. It is on the inside of the bow, not on the side that hits the strings. There are a few hairs kind of dipping out. Is this normal?

wen i play on my strings, it sometimes makes a scretching sound & a sound like im pushing down. Is there something i could do or put on my strings to make it sound better??? I have a concert tomorrow!!!!

which sounds best metal or nylon? & how would i know if the violin sounds good or not? i will not be using it my daugther will use it. but shes here to test it coz shes in the states.

I have a very basic vioin – a starter fullsize that i got for 100euro & the rosin has now dried out (I have replacement strings, I know I’ll have to change them!) so I was wondering what the most appropriate type of rosin for the bow is?

I currently use dominants on my violin. I think that my violin might sound better with a new E string. I don’t want to use the Pirastro universal because is sounds weird on my friend’s violin.

my violin’s string sounds different from other violin, it wasn’t very expensive when i bought it..do i need to change its strings? becasue i feel like it’s different…

I am looking into either the viola or the violin. I want to know how difficult it is to learn to play them, I have musical experience, but in choir not an instrument like this. Any suggestions about which is best or what I could do for lessons. Also, how much does it usually cost to buy one? To rent?

I was practicing my violin today & I noticed that on the A string (approximately between 1st & 3rd finger) there was this area where the winding on the string apparently got loose. I figured out that it was the winding after hearing excessive vibration when playing that string. I later took the winding off the string & then partially cut it so it wouldn’t get in the way of playing. However, when I actually played notes in position on that string all of my notes were about a semitone lower (D became a C#). I know that my fingers are in the correct position, but for some reason the pitch on the string has changed slightly. I tuned the string back to 442 Hz. but the pizzicato sounds strange. My question is what should I do about this because I’m a little reluctant to replace it?
P.S This particular string is a dominant with a synthetic core.
