I found a cello on eBay with a free violin & after seeing the price I wasn’t too positive about buying it. I know nothing about pricing for these instruments & I wanted to buy them for a while & these would be my first so I wanted to ask some people who were experienced with them.

Did that guy from Norway playing the violin, break the bow, lol. I could just see strings flying about!
How funny is Graham Norton?

I’m entering this competition in January, & my sound is all wrong. I am playing Bach Concerto in E Major. It’s supposed to sound smooth & wonderful, but when I play it, my sound comes out rough & crooked. When I listen to professional violinists play, such as Joshua Bell or Sarah Chang, their sound comes smoothly. Is it becuase I am pressing too hard, or using not enough bow? I need advise to make my violin sound strong, powerful, & smooth, instead of making in rough, & hard.

I’m told that my violin is a Saxon. Is that a particular style, or perhaps the name of the maker? I can find nothing about a maker by that name. The violin is at least seventy years old & possibly much older. The wooden bow bears the inscription “GFS. GESCH. Thanks.

I ask this because I am interested in taking up the esraj. I am good at the guitar, but have never used a bow & the esraj uses a bow. Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated!

Also, what is the proper way to rosin your bow…? I just got my violin, & I’m getting rosin tomorrow, so what is the Proper way to do this?

PLEASE READ EVERYTHING. I have been playing flute & violin for about four years. When playing these instruments, I would like to know how I could play faster(sixteenth note & above) & play at a good pace when sight reading.
For flute, I would like to learn how to double tongue & triple tongue. I search online & the advice given is still hard for me to understand. Every so often, I take out my flute & start to play but when i play, I have a bad tone & can’t hit higher notes as well as i know i can. How can I prevent that?
For violin, how can I learn bow techniques? There are many to learn & the music I try to play but i’m too slow or the tone is bad. I need “faster fingers” & better tone. And the biggest problem I have is that I only know first position…
Also what books can help me solve those problems. To practice daily is it a good plan to practice scales with a metronome & then etudes.

I’m thinking of learning the piano first cause i want to replay some songs that like such as moonlight sonata movement 1.
I’m probably not going to learn these until i finish some stuff that i got to do such as school, working out for a sport team, Study hard, homework, etc etc. so in about 3 years of high school.

I’m looking for a tool attachable to violin which helps you lead your bow straightly. It definitely exists. I’ve seen it somewhere but can’t remember its name. Does anyone have an idea what its name might be? It looks like two unfilled rectangles which when attached to violin block you from leading the bow to undesirable places. Thank you

I wanna get a violin in the coming months. What should I look for when buying a violin? I see different sizes from small ones to bigger ones (not a cello). Whats the difference? Im sure the type of wood makes a difference too. And anything I should look for when purchasing a bow?

I am a beginner at violin & hav noticed that the sound is very scratchy & very ungraceful. I looked on youtube & the professionals play more soft & smooth than my scratchy noise & I know it is due to years of practise but is there any way to make the sound more graceful like slower bow movement or something?

ive learnt concerto no.3 in g 3rd movement by mozart, & i’m finding it very difficult to play the fast staccato passages correctly. i’m listening to a professional version & it sounds like she bounces the bow, i want to know how to have such control over the bow? is it the weight of it that affects it, how much hair etc or just looaads of practice?
also…she trills so beautifully, is there any finger exercises or tips anyone knows about that creates a fast & long trill?

I have a child size acoustic Squier guitar & hard case, a child size Cremona violin with two bows in a nice hard case, & a regular size Gemeinhardt flute in a nice hard case, all used.
I want to sell them on craigs list, they’re all in fairly good condition. Does anyone know how much I could sell them for?

I play the violin, & I recently got a new one a few weeks ago. It took me more than thirty minutes to rosin the bow enough so that any sound came out of it, & now, it goes in & out – for a few notes the sound is clear & strong, then it tapers to a wishper, forcing me to stop my practice sessions every five minutes to re-rosin it. Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

Mine are rather short compared to others that I see & I just got to thinking, gosh this is hard to word but … um… god. So if I have a 4×4 violin full size & I have short fingers does that mean that I need a 3×4 violin & keep my bow because my bow is the right size?
If that makes no sense with the sizing its alright because i am an odd one.
But any input, & help would be loved.
I mean I want to make sure I have the right …. ability to play the violin before I take lessons…. .
