how long will it take until i sound beautiful playing the violin?
ive been playing 2 months & my tone is still weak & screechy
will this improve??

i broke a string, & i want all my other strings to be replaced.
also, i accidentally broke a peg. i still have to peg, but i don’t want to super glue it or anything….
i just want it done well

I understand music theory. Ive played brass instruments that require a good ear to determine notes. Ive also played guitar for several years & recently picked up mandolin (same tuning, different handling & slightly finger positions).
I’ve been playing for two weeks now & I can do a couple scales & a couple melodies. However I sometimes still run into the squeaking or playing the notes too sharp.
The problem is my mom won’t pay for lessons unless she thinks I can play slightly better than I do now. Ive tried to explain that this is a hard one to learn without an instructor, but with the price of gas these days, no one is willing to shell out money on something that isn’t worth it.
So: no instructor, previous work with string & “guess the tone” instruments. Two weeks of playing, understand the theory & have a general knowledge of where the notes are.
Also I have all summer completely free to practice. Violinists, what say you!

I am going to be in a new middle school because we are moving across the country & I want to take the Strings Band. I used to play the Violin for about 2 years. I stopped playing a 2 years ago because i was to busy. I went to a teacher 1 on 1 once a week. Do you I can qualify for 8th grade strings? Oh, also I might want to try the Viola. What are some major differences between the 2. Will it be almost like the same as playing the Violin?

-I have a 3/4 lengeth violin in mint condition.
-It is a varnished red wood with all 4 strings & matching bow. (also mint)
-The sound it makes is of the highest quality.
-it comes in a black case with red velvet inside & is in perfect condition.

Sorry for repeating the question previously, something wrong with my computer. Anyway, Im 17 is it too late to learn to play the violin. In addition to being left handed, does it take longer or the same amount of time & do you use the same violin the right handers use. Thank-you

I have played piano for about 7 years & am quite good, but I’m looking at playing the violin next. Will playing the piano make it any easier to play the violin? Or will it not matter because the violin is a string instrument & completely different? Thanks!

My right & left hand coordination is really bad, its like, my left hand taps the table with a 4/4 beat, my right hand will automatically do the same if I even attempt to tap it with a different beat. Like a 7/8 or what. Will it be hard for me to learn the violin? Since the bowing hand & the fingering hand does different actions..

I am learning to play the violin, someone asked me to play a solo in their band, using my violin instead of the keyboard, however, some of the notes are too high for the violin. Would an octave pedal be a solution to this problem? Would I need an electric violin to pull it off with the pedal? Could I just mic my classical violin & put that through the pedal?
I was figuring I could mic my violin, stick an octave pedal in the amp & play everything one octave down, but the pedal would adjust it to the right notes.

I think the sound of a violin is really beautiful & I would like to be able to play it myself. I already know how to play acoustic guitar & I’m quite good at it. Will it be easy for me to play violin with my guitar experience? Thanks!

why when for the first time someone that has no background in music hears a guitar solo & a violin solo he/she would be more attracted to guitar?
why guitar is considered more easy going & more easy listening for ordinary-music-background people & these kind of people like to hear acoustic & especially electric guitar rather than violin?

I have just recently purchased a new violin & it has quite a bright sound. I have been using the strings it came with, & I have no idea what brand it is, but they seem fairly good although the E string sounds too sharp. I was thinking of buying new strings to enhance the sound of my instrument & was considering to buy either Thomastik Dominants which are very good or try a new brand called Pirastro Obligatos, for they are supposedly warmer & go well with violins that have a bright sound to them. Any suggestions?

I am a Freshman music major, cello performance, in college right now & am required to take piano proficiency. So I am learning how to play the piano right now as a beginner. It is a pretty fast paced course & I am amazed at how much I can play in just a couple of months. To be honest, the piano is a very different instrument compared to a violin or cello. As you know you have to use both hands & read 2 cleffs at the same time, but that is easy if you can read both cleffs. As a cellist, I read 3 different cleffs so that wasn’t a problem for me. But since you are a violinist I suggest practicing bass cleff if you struggle with it. musictheory.net is good website to do practices & trainers. Scales feel different to me. When I play scales on my cello I work really hard to listen & make sure the notes are intune & perfect, but on the piano you just push the key & you don’t control what pitch comes out. It seems to me that as a pianist you work for speed with scales, not for intonation & etc as you do as a string player.
Anyways, piano playing is good skill to have & will make you a better musician. I am excited to be learning it in school. Good luck to you, you should do it.

I’ve looked everywhere for this! A friend of mine wants to learn to play this for his wife, & i promised to help him find the music… I’ve searched all kinds of sites, but i just can’t seem to find it. All I can find is piano & guitar.

I’ve been learning violin for 6 years. Will it be easy to learn how to play the guitar? I’m not very good with chords, so would it be harder to learn? How long do you think it would take me to learn guitar?
