Violin Answers

): So I accidentally pushed my friend who stepped on someones violin. Just part of it. I know the person who owns the violin, they’re a couple grades lower than me, but I don’t know them that well.. One of the strings came off & it got a small crack. It’s a really nice violin. I don’t think the sting is a problem it’s the crack..
I’m really worried & am so guilty I feel sick It was so embarrassing too. I haven’t told my parents (they would KILL me). I don’t know what to do… I just got back from school.. please help
I didn’t have time to talk to the boy, because he asked his music teacher if he could borrow a sting & when she said yes, he left.. He obviously was disappointed & all. I think the violin he had was super nice & expensive.
Question now is, what should I do.. ? Any information is helpful.. Thanks!

There are 2 violins tuned to 440 Hz & kept apart.but there tuning is slightly different. a person in between the two violins can hear 4Hz beats. what is the velocity in which he should travel from one violin to the other to avoid hearing beats.??

i use movement with the bow & movement on the string but no sound ? i paid about £90 please help is this normal?

I have been playing violin for four years & I am 15 years old. I know starting at 11 was a little late but I had been asking my parents since I was 6 if I could play & they wouldn’t let me until I was 11! Anyways I LOVE making music & hope to go to college for it. Does anyone know how good you have to be to make it into college?
The last couple pieces I have played:
– Bach Concerto No.1 in A minor (all 3 movements)
– Csardas
– Bach Double
Any comments would be appreciated!

I remember seeing a movie a few years ago & I don’t remember the name of it or all of the details, but I remember basically that there was a woman in it who was teaching troubled kids in I want to so brooklyn or someplace in new york, & tought them how to play violin. basically
me & my dad just bought a antonius stradivarius 1713 copy from eBay for £40 & after we bought it we noticed a small dent/chip/mark on the fingerboard of the violin i dont know how much that would cost to repair though.
But i am no worried its going to cost a lot of money to repair. The guy stated there is nothing major only minor knocks on the violin which isn’t a problem.
And after i bought it i asked if it came with a case to make sure & he said no. But he didn’t state it on the description which i have seen others mention when they have a violin with no case. He didn’t mention that.
He said he will give refunds if he has misquoted something on the description.
I haven’t actually payed for it yet but i think i might cancel it or do you think its best to recieve it first & see.
I am just annoyed he didn’t state there was no case.
is it possible to just cancel it, i have just asked him but no reply yet.

I was working today, (babysitter/nanny) & I had to go outside
to take out the trash & I heard one of the neighbors playing
their violin in their garage.
I have know clue how to explain it other than it was
a certain “beat”, (If thats what you call it)
that played for about 3-5 seconds, & then
pauses for like a split second & then plays a similer
“beat” for another few seconds, then pauses agian.
But right before it paueses each time, it reaches a high tune.
(I have no clue about any of this stuff if you can tell.lol)
It’s a fast plaing song.
And I also have heard it before, it’s played in movies sometimes.
does anyone know what song this could be???

Hi, I just got a violin for Christmas & have been trying to learn to play. I play piano & flute so I can read notes, but do not have the”ear” to tell if an instrument is in tune. I would like to take lessons, but cannot afford them. I want to tape my violin, just until the muscle memory comes into play. What are the “proper” measurements. I know that it is not & exact science, but was hoping someone could tell me. I read in one article that the measurements are as follows:
First tape: 1 5/16
Second tape: 2 9/16
Third tape; 3 1/8
Fourth tape: 4 1/4
Can anyone tell me if this if fairly accurate. I do not have a tuner, but have metronome that tunes at A440. Thanks to Everyone in Advance!!! =D

ok im NO expert at tuning with pegs, so i neeeeed help please!!! my mom was gone while i tried tuning my D, so i couldnt have her do it… my violin was left in th car while shopping for awhile, & got wayyyy outta tune! like everything was flat. i got the G string tuned, but when i attempted the D, it broke:( i feel bad, cuz thats the 2nd time i broke a string. the problem at first was, i heard the correct D, but as i let go of the peg, it slid back:( so i tried pushing it a lillll bit farther…and SNAP! tips/help/advice pleaaaase. i know i sucked & am horrible at tuning with pegs, i already know. so please dont insult me:(

Hey – I play the violin & I am about grade 5 standard. After watching Britains got talent (escala) I have been more inspired to play than ever & I was think about perhaps purchasing an electric violin. However before I do I wouldn’t mind getting some info from people who have them. Just things like pros & cons & whether you would recommend getting one. Oh & is there any difference from a normal violin (as in playing it). If there is anything else you think I ought to know then fantastic.
With wooden violins, the more you spend the better the quality & such. How much would you recommend spending on an electric violin?

I started violin last month, & have been having the same problem! My teacher is getting frustrated (and of course I am too). He thought me how to hold the bow & how to bow using the wrist, & not the arm. But I can’t seem to get the hang of it. For example, when my wrist goes upward during an up-bow, the bow ‘floats’ away from my pinky & when my wrist goes down for the down-bow, the bow ’slips’ inwards & it rests on the 3rd joint of my index finger, instead of the 2nd joint. All these leads to the bow ‘running’ about. So when I try to hold the bow steady, my bowing switches to ‘arm’ mode, instead of wrist movement, which my teacher calls ‘rowing’. Any advice please? This problem seems to be my main obstacle from progressing as I can already read notes & such. Thanks!

I want a good quality violin at a decent price.
I used to play the violin. I stopped playing several years ago & I want to start playing again.
I have no idea what brands I should check out. What brands should I consider?
I don’t want an electric violin though.
Any help would be appreciated =)

1) when i play my violin, & we’re not even going that fast, on up bows i seem to crunch & let my bow go too far. i think this might be cuz im left handed & don’t have much control over my bow arm. i thought your grip should be kind of light & loose, & it really frustrates me when we are playing extremely quiet fast notes like 16th notes & i crunch & i can’t stop my arm. i’ve never been that great at bowing
2) i can’t play pianicimo or pp idk how to spell it. like when we are at concerts & everyone is playing extremely quiet, i can’t. i will do the same thing & let my bow fly & make it too loud. so i fake bow at moments like that.
3) once we played ratatouille, where there were like 10 measure of sixteenth notes in 3/4 or commontime, & i couldn’t play them like i cant move my arm that fast…it was easy too like it was a really fast scale just like in sixteenth notes really fast & i can’t do it & it sucks! i get really frustrated with myself & i can’t do anything right. UGH
