I remember when I was young, my parents made me take piano lessons. They said it was one thing to be educated but it is another thing to be cultured.

I play the flute & panpipes. I’m trying to convince my Mum to let me play violin, drums or electric guitar. So far no luck. Out of the three which one do you think I should play anyway.

I was just wondering if any of u on Y!A played many instruments. I play Violin currently, I played Flute of 2 years & could probably still play, I taught myself Clarinet, I taught myself Guitar, & I used to take Piano lessons, but i can still play a little by ear.

I’m 14, & I really want to learn an instrument, but I don’t know where to start. I would really like to play violin, & I really like the sound of the electric, which I would like to eventually play. (I’m also wondering how many years experience I would need to be able to play it adequately.) But I have never really played a musical instrument, & can’t read music. Would it be very hard to learn at this point?

You know, i find them like depressing, & right now i’m looking for depressing stuff.

I’ve been very bore all summer cause the sheet music my orchestra teacher gave me for the summer is too easy & I can play them all pretty much by heart now. Does anyone know any sheet music that I could play on my violin? It doesn’t have to be hard or anything complicated- thats not what I’m asking for. I just kinda want to play some new stuff. Thanks

I want to learn how to bounce my bow on the violin in a controlled way to produce a musical sound. An example of what I mean is how Alex Depue plays Owner of a Lonely Heart & Smooth Criminal. Does anyone know how to do this?

Please respond how the tuning of a violin works (string tension, etc.)

I’ve seen it in Scandinavian countries. I think it has eight strings & it is held like a violin when played.

I’ve always loved the sound of the violin & have been curious about learning to play it, especially in the style you hear in Irish music. That looks very difficult. So just wondering I guess if a relatively old dog could learn new tricks or if this is one of those things you have to learn in your fomative years.
Any example of people who have learned to play only later in life would be inspirational!
