how long will it take until i sound beautiful playing the violin?
ive been playing 2 months & my tone is still weak & screechy
will this improve??

Mine are rather short compared to others that I see & I just got to thinking, gosh this is hard to word but … um… god. So if I have a 4×4 violin full size & I have short fingers does that mean that I need a 3×4 violin & keep my bow because my bow is the right size?
If that makes no sense with the sizing its alright because i am an odd one.
But any input, & help would be loved.
I mean I want to make sure I have the right …. ability to play the violin before I take lessons…. .

I am in 5th grade & I am creating an arrangment of Canon in D on the violin / cello for my school’s string quartet. I think it might be a little too hard to play the whole thing, which is a full 32 measures & we havent even started playing more that 10 measures. How many measures should I play?

I understand music theory. Ive played brass instruments that require a good ear to determine notes. Ive also played guitar for several years & recently picked up mandolin (same tuning, different handling & slightly finger positions).
I’ve been playing for two weeks now & I can do a couple scales & a couple melodies. However I sometimes still run into the squeaking or playing the notes too sharp.
The problem is my mom won’t pay for lessons unless she thinks I can play slightly better than I do now. Ive tried to explain that this is a hard one to learn without an instructor, but with the price of gas these days, no one is willing to shell out money on something that isn’t worth it.
So: no instructor, previous work with string & “guess the tone” instruments. Two weeks of playing, understand the theory & have a general knowledge of where the notes are.
Also I have all summer completely free to practice. Violinists, what say you!

I am 16 years old in grade 11. I really want to learn how to play an instrument, (i have played piano, violin & baritone in the past) especially the guitar. I am a fairly quick learner. Would it be worth learning, or will it be a long time before I am able to play anything worth playing? Thanks

How long should i rolson a violin bow or how many times should i pass over the bow with the rolson?

i accidentally chipped a little varnish off the corner of my new violin with my bow & i want to know how long it would take to repair it (it’s very small but it stands out since the contrast of the color is so great)

If you’re a good violinist, you already have the left hand down pat. If you’re just looking to strum basic rhythms, you can do this already. If you want to do complicated finger picking, you need to work on your right hand. Practice & this should come in a few months.
Since you’ve already learned violin, I suggest takng some classical guitar lessons. If you can play guitar in the classical style, then rock, country etc are easy.

Sorry for repeating the question previously, something wrong with my computer. Anyway, Im 17 is it too late to learn to play the violin. In addition to being left handed, does it take longer or the same amount of time & do you use the same violin the right handers use. Thank-you

I’m a cellist & my high school string ensemble fines people for long fingernails. I find this rule unreasonable as it invades people’s privacy. But do long fingernails really affect violin playing? For me it does not…

does it matter how old you are when you learn it?
I am 23…I played violin a bit when I was a kid but didn’t like practicing so never got particularly good at it. I could play songs & all back then…but it’s been a long time & I remember nothing about how to play. But lately I’ve sort of been regretting that I stopped & vaguely wondering how hard it would be to pick up.
Additionally…how much would a decent violin cost to get?

I know this question has been asked a dozen of times already but, how long will it take to master the violin. I have started then stopped for about a year & now I want to pick it back up again. I am still in the beginners stages, I still don’t know how to tune it yet. When I play it of course it sounds awful because its out of tune.But I want to be really good at it. Would it take at least 3 hrs a day practicing to sound really great. Any suggestions or advice. That would be awsome ty.

ummm might take a couple years to be perfect but if you want to play easy songs 2 or 3 months.My tip if you want to be perfect get classes every day

I’ve been playing violin for 1 year & my teacher said i’m progressing fast & i’m gonna do my 3rd grade exam this yr. But i’m 16 already & i’m hoping to finish grade 8 when i leave school. is it possible??

I know it depends on the person but if you just had to guess how many years it would take to master songs like these what would you guess?I want to know how long it’ll take me to get good lol

i know it takes years to be a pro. just talking about a regular high school band that plays to youth. Take in note that my mentor tells me that i am a quick learner.
