Violin Answers

I have a concert coming up & i need help to keep my left arm from hurting when i keep it up for a long time. I usually rest my arm while i’m playing when i practice, but i cant do that during the concert of course. What can i do to keep it from hurting?

i use movement with the bow & movement on the string but no sound ? i paid about £90 please help is this normal?

In Poland there is this guy that i really like, but I only see him at Christmas & Summer Holidays. When I’m there he keeps trying to impress me, he seems desperate to make me laugh & keeps looking over at me. I think he likes me, but I don’t know…… People have told me to play hard to get, but he is just effortlessly funny, & i always burst out laughing. I want to tell him how I feel, but I’m afraid of rejection & it would be hard for both of us to stay friends after something like that. My friend is quite close is him, so i asked her to ‘randomly’ ask what he thinks of me & he told her that he seems to like me more every day.I was excited to hear that but I don’t know if he likes me as a crush of as friends. He is also MEGA talented, he plays drums, piano, violin & soccer & he is amazing at all that. I feel kind of useless compared to him. Once I tried to not make him see that I was laughing when he was making fun of something, & I tried to cover up my smirk with drinking tea- bad idea. I ended up bursting out laughing & pouring it all over myself! I also wear eyeshadow & lip gloss, & he once caught me fixing my lip gloss & it seemed to freak him out. Boys, what should I do?! Does he like me?

I have read advice on how to fix a fallen bridge, & I would rather do this myself rather than have to bring it to someone to get it fixed.
However, the reason it broke was because I tried tightening the pegs because my strings were flat & the pressure made the bridge fall off. I wonder why the strings were so tight & yet still slightly flat?
And at the top where the strings go round the pegs they are not exactly…how do I put this…on each string, when it curls around the peg, each curl isnt next to eachother…the string sometimes curls on top of itself..if you get what im trying to say??? lol
anyway, im useless at violin but i really need to get this fixed before my lesson

I’ve been playing violin for a couple years now, but I still have several problems. They are:
1) Before I play, I always make sure that the violin is level. But while I play, the violin starts dropping & points slightly downward, making it hard to play double-stops. Am I not holding the violin right? What can I do if I’m not?
2) I have trouble with double stops. Should I just keep practicing, or is there a way to make this easier?
3) After I play, there are deep grooves in my fingertips from the strings. I’ve played for a while & the skin on my fingers is fairly tough. Am I pressing too hard? How do I break this habit?

me & my dad just bought a antonius stradivarius 1713 copy from eBay for £40 & after we bought it we noticed a small dent/chip/mark on the fingerboard of the violin i dont know how much that would cost to repair though.
But i am no worried its going to cost a lot of money to repair. The guy stated there is nothing major only minor knocks on the violin which isn’t a problem.
And after i bought it i asked if it came with a case to make sure & he said no. But he didn’t state it on the description which i have seen others mention when they have a violin with no case. He didn’t mention that.
He said he will give refunds if he has misquoted something on the description.
I haven’t actually payed for it yet but i think i might cancel it or do you think its best to recieve it first & see.
I am just annoyed he didn’t state there was no case.
is it possible to just cancel it, i have just asked him but no reply yet.

Right i am 16 & really want to learn how to play the violin, i have been looking on ebay for a cheap violin but first what do i need with a violin??
Second is that will it be really hard for me to teach myself? i was thinking of buying violin for dummies & watching videos online because i can’t afford lessons but i really want to play it!
So if there is anyone who did teach themselves can u give me some pointers & to those who play the violin what do i need??

I was working today, (babysitter/nanny) & I had to go outside
to take out the trash & I heard one of the neighbors playing
their violin in their garage.
I have know clue how to explain it other than it was
a certain “beat”, (If thats what you call it)
that played for about 3-5 seconds, & then
pauses for like a split second & then plays a similer
“beat” for another few seconds, then pauses agian.
But right before it paueses each time, it reaches a high tune.
(I have no clue about any of this stuff if you can tell.lol)
It’s a fast plaing song.
And I also have heard it before, it’s played in movies sometimes.
does anyone know what song this could be???
I kno this is a stupid question to ask, but I’m just hoping that

Hi, I just got a violin for Christmas & have been trying to learn to play. I play piano & flute so I can read notes, but do not have the”ear” to tell if an instrument is in tune. I would like to take lessons, but cannot afford them. I want to tape my violin, just until the muscle memory comes into play. What are the “proper” measurements. I know that it is not & exact science, but was hoping someone could tell me. I read in one article that the measurements are as follows:
First tape: 1 5/16
Second tape: 2 9/16
Third tape; 3 1/8
Fourth tape: 4 1/4
Can anyone tell me if this if fairly accurate. I do not have a tuner, but have metronome that tunes at A440. Thanks to Everyone in Advance!!! =D

I have a 1925 violin made in Germany size 4/4 fully restored with brand new case & bow

Hey – I play the violin & I am about grade 5 standard. After watching Britains got talent (escala) I have been more inspired to play than ever & I was think about perhaps purchasing an electric violin. However before I do I wouldn’t mind getting some info from people who have them. Just things like pros & cons & whether you would recommend getting one. Oh & is there any difference from a normal violin (as in playing it). If there is anything else you think I ought to know then fantastic.
With wooden violins, the more you spend the better the quality & such. How much would you recommend spending on an electric violin?

I am playing the violin on stage at a play, & is there a way to amplify the sound (like some kind of electric bow or something) without having to buy a full electric violin? We cant use a mic because we dont have any. If not, what is the cheapest electric violin to buy?

I started violin last month, & have been having the same problem! My teacher is getting frustrated (and of course I am too). He thought me how to hold the bow & how to bow using the wrist, & not the arm. But I can’t seem to get the hang of it. For example, when my wrist goes upward during an up-bow, the bow ‘floats’ away from my pinky & when my wrist goes down for the down-bow, the bow ’slips’ inwards & it rests on the 3rd joint of my index finger, instead of the 2nd joint. All these leads to the bow ‘running’ about. So when I try to hold the bow steady, my bowing switches to ‘arm’ mode, instead of wrist movement, which my teacher calls ‘rowing’. Any advice please? This problem seems to be my main obstacle from progressing as I can already read notes & such. Thanks!

I’ve been playing the violin for about seven years now, & I don’t recall ever feeling so unconfident about it. It seems like I am the worst in the class, even few practice as much as I do. Some of the best in the class never take their instrument home, & my teacher is always yelling at me, & the playing tests are humiliating, especially since I really like one of the guys that are really good in there, & I am not easily embarassed. It seems like I am only getting worse, & I will not go to tutoring (since the teacher is a little creepy). It seems like some of the more prominent problems are these: (1) Even if I am in tune the sound still is terrible. (2) I am becoming less & less able to bow closer to the tip. (3) I can’t do vibrato to save my life, even though everyone else can. (4) My fingers, wrists, elbows, & shoulders have been cramping up a lot lately. (5) It’s almost as if I can’t read or play anything fast anymore. Music is my passion…. Please help me!

Ok well, whenever i play my violin it sounds all scratchy & out of tune. but i know it is in tune. Could it be something to do with the strings or the bow? It never used to do that. It sounded clear & in tune.. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
