Violin Answers

I’m entering this competition in January, & my sound is all wrong. I am playing Bach Concerto in E Major. It’s supposed to sound smooth & wonderful, but when I play it, my sound comes out rough & crooked. When I listen to professional violinists play, such as Joshua Bell or Sarah Chang, their sound comes smoothly. Is it becuase I am pressing too hard, or using not enough bow? I need advise to make my violin sound strong, powerful, & smooth, instead of making in rough, & hard.

It is a new tune that it plays a violin almost the entire song, & has Martin Luther King Jr. going off in the back ground

): So I accidentally pushed my friend who stepped on someones violin. Just part of it. I know the person who owns the violin, they’re a couple grades lower than me, but I don’t know them that well.. One of the strings came off & it got a small crack. It’s a really nice violin. I don’t think the sting is a problem it’s the crack..
I’m really worried & am so guilty I feel sick It was so embarrassing too. I haven’t told my parents (they would KILL me). I don’t know what to do… I just got back from school.. please help
I didn’t have time to talk to the boy, because he asked his music teacher if he could borrow a sting & when she said yes, he left.. He obviously was disappointed & all. I think the violin he had was super nice & expensive.
Question now is, what should I do.. ? Any information is helpful.. Thanks!

PLEASE READ EVERYTHING. I have been playing flute & violin for about four years. When playing these instruments, I would like to know how I could play faster(sixteenth note & above) & play at a good pace when sight reading.
For flute, I would like to learn how to double tongue & triple tongue. I search online & the advice given is still hard for me to understand. Every so often, I take out my flute & start to play but when i play, I have a bad tone & can’t hit higher notes as well as i know i can. How can I prevent that?
For violin, how can I learn bow techniques? There are many to learn & the music I try to play but i’m too slow or the tone is bad. I need “faster fingers” & better tone. And the biggest problem I have is that I only know first position…
Also what books can help me solve those problems. To practice daily is it a good plan to practice scales with a metronome & then etudes.

ive learnt concerto no.3 in g 3rd movement by mozart, & i’m finding it very difficult to play the fast staccato passages correctly. i’m listening to a professional version & it sounds like she bounces the bow, i want to know how to have such control over the bow? is it the weight of it that affects it, how much hair etc or just looaads of practice?
also…she trills so beautifully, is there any finger exercises or tips anyone knows about that creates a fast & long trill?

Well, so I have this friend. I love her, but she is a REALLY slow learner & just generally not very bright (in a clique of advanced classes-taking overachievers). She has never really done well in orchestra, or any class, & now is extremely behind, not knowing the difference between an eighth note & a quarter note, or what they really even are for that matter.
We are now at the HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL & she still doesn’t even know to tune her own violin. My teacher has put me as a stand partner with her so I can help her, which I really do want to, but she is soooooooo incredibly behind. I play fairly well, (just a little bit above average) but it is really hard for me to try to teach her something like how to position her fingers to play b flat or repeatedly explain how the bow is moved in a slur, when we are supposed to be able to play in three flats, in third position, at an allegro tempo! I really do want to help her, but how? It’s beginning to seem quite hopeless! Help!

I want to play Fiddle like, really badly, but my mom says that I should know how to play Classical Violin before switching to Fiddle, what should I do? Follow her words? or go directly to Fiddle?

A violin is tuned by adjusting the tension in the strings. Brian’s A string is tuned to a slightly lower frequency than Jennifer’s, which is correctly tuned to 440.0 Hz. (a) What is the frequency of Brian’s string if beats of 2.0 Hz are heard when the two bow the strings together?
(b) Does Brian need to tighten or loosen his A string to get in tune with Jennifer?

I was just given a rather older violin by a friend of mine & I bought a replacement bow. But I compared the two bows… the new one I bought’s strings aren’t tight enough or something.

i play the violin but i want to learn the guitar as i write songs & want to put tunes & stuff to the songs using the guitar
at school i asked the head of music if i could stop my violin lessons & start guitar & he said i could stop violin but i cant start guitar till September so i have decided that i will try to self teach myself how to play

There are 2 violins tuned to 440 Hz & kept apart.but there tuning is slightly different. a person in between the two violins can hear 4Hz beats. what is the velocity in which he should travel from one violin to the other to avoid hearing beats.??

i came back from vacation from taiwan & now my fingers arent keeping up with my bow now & my music is all slured & horrible to hear…. i slow down an it works. but when i slowly speed up again i becomes slurred again. im not taking lessons til september

1: what is the right amount of rosin to put on your bow?
2: Any Free sheet music sites besides 8 notes.
3: song suggestions?
4: last but not least, i have a bad habit of gritting my teeth as i play…how do i break that habit before i break my teeth.??

Hey guys I just bought myself a practice violin, one of those cheap kits for beginners… it comes with a violin with the strings & whatnot, a bow, & some rosin. Well it sounds tin like- I was wondering how much of an improvement it would be to buy a new bridge, new strings, & a new bow. Obviously I know this practice violin isn’t going to sound great, but how much would replacing these things help? Thanks all for your time

I just got a new violin, & put the strings & everything in it.
But when I try to play it with the bow, the strings do not make any noise at all.
What should I do?

I have a concert coming up & i need help to keep my left arm from hurting when i keep it up for a long time. I usually rest my arm while i’m playing when i practice, but i cant do that during the concert of course. What can i do to keep it from hurting?
