Violin Answers

Well ive been playing for 10 yrs & though i have a passion for the guitar
(be that classical,electric,acoustic) i have an interest in trying out other instruments. I have an interest in trying out the cello but, money wise i’m not so good right now. the violin would be my next choice. My question is
“Is it hard to play the violin, cello or viola even though i have experience with guitar or is it a whole other experience”, is it wise to get a teacher get a class or learn it by myself with time & patience.

i’ve got two or three things i want to re-wire. i know how to do it, but i’m not sure about the actual cable which is needed. firstly i’ve got a bog standard strat guitar, a peavey bass & a electric violin. can anyone shed light on the type of cable i need for each? xxx

Ok so i mostly play rock music & have a Boss OS-2 pedal & a crappy 10 watt amp (it sounds ok with my electric violin but the guitar sounds horrible on it) i am looking into a better amp & maybe another pedal or two, any suggestions that someone could give me on what to get without going for my lungs would be greatly appreciated(that’s mainly for the amps, the pedals i know how much there gonna cost for the most part)

I’ve been playing the violin since i was 10 or 11 [im 14 now] & i want to learn the electric guitar so i wanted to know if the electric guitar was like playing a violin just with more strings cause that’s what someone told me

i play the violin but i want to learn the guitar as i write songs & want to put tunes & stuff to the songs using the guitar
at school i asked the head of music if i could stop my violin lessons & start guitar & he said i could stop violin but i cant start guitar till September so i have decided that i will try to self teach myself how to play
does any one know any good sites to help me?

I am 16 years old in grade 11. I really want to learn how to play an instrument, (i have played piano, violin & baritone in the past) especially the guitar. I am a fairly quick learner. Would it be worth learning, or will it be a long time before I am able to play anything worth playing? Thanks

i have played guitar a few years now, & i plan on starting violin soon, & i already play guitar. how is it to play compared to guitar, & what are the string tunings?

I saw a guy play a guitar using a bow (<I think that is the right word for the stick used to play a violin) at a concert, but he only played like two different notes, so i am curious can that same range of sounds be acheived on a guitar using a bow as on a violin?

I want to know how I can play the guitar without getting callouses. The reason is that I currently play the piano & violin, & getting callouses would be bad for those instruments, where the sensitivity in the fingertips is vital. Is this possible?

im 13, almost 14. do you think its still possible to learn how to play an electric guitar just for kicks? & does anyone know a good, brand besides fender & gibson? oh, & i intend to just youtube my way through this musical world, so is that a good idea? i REALLY dont wanna go & find a teacher. oh, & i play the violin & im pretty good, would that help?

I recently got a guitar, & i have a Korg ca-30 tuner that i use for my violin, i’ve been using it for my guitar also, but I think I’m doing it wrong, i know the order of the strings & everything, but am i supposed to tune my guitar on 440 hz, just like I do for my violin??? help me!!!

i have a electric semi-acoustic guitar & in the futur i am thinking about learning to play either the cello or violin. i was wondering whether i could use a bow with a guitar, i would ideally like to learn the technique before i splash out on either of these Instruments.

I’ve been playing the guitar for 2 years now & love it all the way been playing fingerstyle & classical pieces. But most of the songs i learnt are by tabs =.= although I know how to read notations (not fluently) but when theres a tab i’ll be playing the tabs instead the notes.
So a suggestion was given to me, pick up another instrument. So I think I have to choose either the violin(string family) or the piano. So mind giving me ur opinions should i go for the strings or the piano?
I also have love for the string instrument as it can make a sweet & melodic tunes for pop musics.
p.s. I have a piano in my house but no one plays it, sometimes i do.

You know, playing an electric guitar with a violin bow, like Jonsi from Sigur Ros, or any other artists who do this. I’ve tried, but so far it hasn’t worked out so well. Can anyone give me any tips?

If you’re a good violinist, you already have the left hand down pat. If you’re just looking to strum basic rhythms, you can do this already. If you want to do complicated finger picking, you need to work on your right hand. Practice & this should come in a few months.
Since you’ve already learned violin, I suggest takng some classical guitar lessons. If you can play guitar in the classical style, then rock, country etc are easy.
