Violin Answers

every time my violin gets close to being in tune the bridge will slam down… then i have to loosen the strings & try again. i am being really careful… the bridge keeps tilting with every string i tighten & eventually slams down. any tips

(heads up, im not a very good player)
I have read advice on how to fix a fallen bridge, & I would rather do this myself rather than have to bring it to someone to get it fixed.
However, the reason it broke was because I tried tightening the pegs because my strings were flat & the pressure made the bridge fall off. I wonder why the strings were so tight & yet still slightly flat?
And at the top where the strings go round the pegs they are not exactly…how do I put this…on each string, when it curls around the peg, each curl isnt next to eachother…the string sometimes curls on top of itself..if you get what im trying to say??? lol
anyway, im useless at violin but i really need to get this fixed before my lesson

I have been playing piano for 11 years & guitar for 4. So, I decided on buying a beginners violin. I didn’t have much money to spare towards a violin so I bought one online from Crystalcello for 50 dollars. It worked well for the first week, but then the bridge snapped.
I then taped the bridge together so that I could keep practicing while I waited for another bridge in the mail. I decided on buying a new & more expensive bridge & better rosin.
The violin is very squeaky & makes a sort of ‘crunch’ sound. I was wondering if anyone would suggest anything else besides buying a ned bridge (if that alters or improves the sound at all). Would better strings make a difference as well? Or should I simply keep practicing my bowing?
Either way, my technique has improved & the squeaking has lessened, but I’d like to get rid of it completely.

I’ve been playing the violin for about five years, but I recently stopped taking lessons & in those lessons, my teacher always adjusted the bridge. I already know how to change the strings, tune them, & really do anything I need to as far as basic maintenance goes, but the bridge is starting to lean & I’d like to know how I can pull it back into position.

I have modified my bridge but the e string keeps on digging itself to it about 2mm, what should i do or what should i buy?

why is it that when i play in the middle of the bridge of the violin the tone isn’t that nice, it kinda makes a whistling sound. That’s why i play near the fingerboard..

What sound quailty do you get with
high?
medium?
low?
For instance, do you get a higher sound or lower sound.
Which, if any, bridge helps you stay in tune better?

Ive only had it for about 5 days

my music teacher told me that i need to buy divots, they are little metal pieces that go in between the string & bridge of the violin.They prevent the string from digging into the bridge. Do you guys know what they are called or where you can get them, online website would be nice.

My bridge popped out last night when I was performing (yes, VERY disastrous) so I re-set it this morning. I’m fairly certain I did it correctly. I put the feet between the notches on the F holes & as close to the original grooves it had left on my instrument as I could get it. I asked someone at the music store how to do it & I followed their instructions. When I tuned my instrument again, it went out of tune really easily as if I had just restrung it. Is that normal?

My mom’s violin has been in it’s case, under her bead for the past 20 years. I got it out a little while ago to rescue it, & possibly fix it up for her. It’s kinda pointless to fix it because I am not planning on learning the violin, & my mom is not really caring about it, but I know she will be interested in playing with it if it is fixed. Anyway I just feel bad for the violin. It’s like an abused puppy..lol. But the bridge is no longer attached to the violin & 3 of the strings are broken. The bridge stays up fine under the tension of the remaining string, but not if I remove the remaining string. Is it supposed to be like that? (Forgive my ignorance, I know nothing about violins.) And how to I replace all of the strings? How much do new strings cost? If I have to take the violin in to a repair shop, how much will fixing the bridge cost (if it’s even broken..)? For all of you violin players this is probably a dumb question to ask but the violin is not my specialty, lol) I will appreciate any answers given!

I’m new. I just got a new violin, the neck of the old one was separating. Now this one it looks like the strings are sitting on the wrong place. They are all evenly spaced apart & on my old violin it looked like the space between the strings was wider as the notes get lower, like the e & a string are closer than the g & d string, On this one it looks like there are grooves where the strings are suppposed to go, but they aren’t in them.. Can someone guide me to the right information.

I was trying to tune it (It’s the same bridge the violin came with; a Gliga violin with a Gliga bridge, if that’s any useful information) & then the bridge popped off. So I figured I was putting too much tension on it by not using the fine tuners, so I put them down, but when I tried tuning again, the bridge popped off. Help x_x. Do I have to take it into a shop to get it fixed or is their a certain way you tune while the bridge is not adjusted?

I have seen people (Ex: Jimmy Page) use a violin on their guitar. The only problem is that since the bridge is flat, they can only play chords. If I made the bridge curved would it change the sound ridiculously or would it still even be considered a guitar?

I know the bridge is supposed to come off but its not supposed to fall off while I play or tune it.

Could it be that i bought a useless violin?

I am hoping to make an electric violin I know where to get everything, except the bridge. I do not want one that goes around the violin, I want one that I can make go through it & then have a standard input jack plug into it.

So I play violin, & put rosin on my bow. My teacher says to play closer to the bridge, but when I do that it get squeaky. Usually I play with my bow about an inch away from the bridge & when I try to play closer to the bridge it is about a centimeter away.I am moving my bow strait….what could be causing the squeaky sound? Is it the violin maybe?
