One word:
ROSIN
You rub it on your bow. They sell it online or at string instruments stores for about $3. I preffer light rosin to dark rosin.

You probably need to rosin the bow quite a bit.
And then find a good private teacher to show you how to play the instrument.

hmm, you may need rosin, i’ve only played for a year but if i didnt use enough it didnt make any sound, but maybe you need to tune the bow

doing everything your self, take it to a good music shop & let someone that know what they are doing make all the adjustments it needs, also buy an electronic tuner & learn how to use it to keep instrument in tune,if you want really loud have a micpickup installed & get an amplyfier.

the bows need to be tuned correctly, so they should be tight but not so tight that they’ll snap. your bow might need some rosin or your bow might also need to be tightened. if everything seems fine, but it’s still not playing then you might want to take it to a music store or someone who might know what’s wrong.

The bow needs to be tuned right & tightened right, not too much but not too loose. It’s good enough when your bow has a round-ish shape on the stick when you hold it up, it doesn’t have to be straight. And the violin needs to be tuned right. All the strings need to be tuned. Since you say you don’t know about violins I suggest take it to an experienced musician maybe even a music teacher at a school. They should be able to fix it.

If you are getting no sound, it is because your bow needs rosin. You have to buy it & rub it on the hair. Because violin bow hair is so smooth, there is virtually no friction when you rub it across the string, therefore, no sound. You need the rosen to create that friction. If you haven’t already, then you will need to tune it. Starting with the string on the left the notes are G, D, A, E. Good Luck!
