I’m Way Ahead With My Violin And Have Nothing Other To Do? Ideas?
i started violin lessons a few months ago, & we just learnt to put our 1st finger down. she gave my group a two tunes & half a tune to practice, i have learnt them all off by heart & played the half one, its easy. i taught myself the rest of the tunes in the 2nd finger bit that she didn’t teach to us, so now i am reallllyy ahead of my group, & have nothing new to practice over christmas. i think i should teach myself second finger, theres no point in playing the same tunes over & over, becuase i know them all!

ok, first of all, if it takes a few months just for her to teach everyone how to put the first finger down on the fingerboard.. QUIT THAT TEACHER
you deserve a better teacher. maybe try private lessons so you can go more at your own pace rather being stopped from learning by the other slow kids. I suggest you use suzuki books. the first song is twinkle twinkle litttle star & it has open, 1st, 2nd, 3rd finger a string, open, 1st finger on e string. there are many teachers that go by the suzuki books & I highly reccomend them.
if they dont have enough easier songs to practice, you can always find begginer books at any music store.

Just go get a private teacher cause you might be playing it wrong. You might get scolded at from your orchestral teacher from playing it wrong haha

You might want to get this book:
Tune a Day, Book 1http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/a/item.htm…

You could head down to your nearest music center & see if they have any violin-specific peices… I’m sure they’d be glad to help.
They may also be willing to play it before you buy it, so that you can see if you like it first.

If you have a book to go by, just keep working ahead. Your teacher can always give you pointers later to fine-tune what you pick up on your own. If you don’t have a book — go out & get one from a music store. Why stick with boring repetition? You may have an exceptional talent. Who knows if you don’t gallup ahead & try it out!

I also started violin in a group class. It could get really frustrating when I was able to get things faster than most. I really wanted to move at a quicker pace, so I started taking private lessons. Your private teacher will give you plenty to do. You’ll be able to move at your own pace, & it will be a lot more fun since you’ll be doing more than just using first finger! Your group teacher might teach private lessons. If not, he/she most likely will be able to recommend someone who does.
